Tatoos

I caught an episode of Miami Ink on TLC and it got me curious so I spent some time looking at their tatoo galleries on their web site. They have some pretty impressive tatoos on there. They really don't compare with any tatoos that I've ever seen. For example, I've mostly seen the dark green tatoos, but not many with color. I didn't know it was even possible to do the things that they do. But despite the quality of the artwork, some of the tatoos are pretty extreme and I can't imagine wanting to turn my body into a gallery like some of these people have done. I also can't imagine anything that I'd want permanently imprinted on my body. Besides, the prophet says it defiles the temple which is our body.

I'm afraid I'd love it this year but then I'd get tired of it and what then? Removal?? I'd rather save my hide.

I also worry about becoming fatter and then my tattoo would become misshapen.

Is misshapen a word??

I have a friend who got Tweety Bird, but after two kids it became Big Bird!!! LOL! The body may be the temple, but the LDS temple does contain a lot of ornate gold-leafing! Why not tatoos? My beaf with temple construction is that they cost loads of money...couldn't we be feeding the poor, clothing the naked, healing the sick, or helping to fund missions? More temples=more tithing income potential.

Almost every other protestant church lists its income and expenditures for the members to view...why not the LDS church? I gave over 14,000 on my last tithe, where did that go? the YW and YM never have enough money to do anything, the buildings are sparse, the callings are all voluntary , even the janitorial care now. Where is the money going????????
Tatoos are a graceful art of the now...not the future!

I started TIVO'ing Miami Ink and I'm constantly amazed by what they are able to do. Some of the portrait tattoos are nearly photorealistic. I'm also amazed at the use of color.

I don't have anything per se against tatoos. It's just that I see a lot of them that are over the top and I wonder if the person won't regret it in the future. For me personally, I can't think of anything that I'd want for the rest of my life.

Come to think of it, I know WHERE I'd have a tatoo done. I'd do like Chuck Liddel (UFC champion) and have it done on my shaved head. That way all I'd have to do is grow my hair out to cover it. If I wanted to look bad-ass I'd just have to shave my head.

My husband teases that if he ever did it, he'd tattoo an M on each butt cheek. That way if he ever did naked sommersaults, it'd read "WOW, MOM! WOW, MOM!"

Bull, this is VERY interesting to me. I seem to remember *ahem* a very strong comment by you on my blog regarding this EXACT issue.

I guess you didn't watch Miami Ink back then... ;)

No, I didn't. So I have YOU to blame for stirring my curiosity. If I wind up breaking the prophet's counsel then I'll know who to blame...

Blame me all you want. You don't follow any prophet and you know it! Next time you're in utah, you and me are getting tatoos. There. That's it.
